Hope you didn’t miss this one. The Ravena Coeymans Yacht Club (RCYC) on the Hudson River was the host site for the first public boat show and workshop in the Capital Region by the Adirondack Chapter.
The day began with a lecture on solar boats presented by Captain David Borton, a retired Ph. D professor from Rensselaer Polytech Institute. Dr. Borton’s presentation of his boat cruises along the Erie Canal as well as Alaska using only solar power included technical information on the use of solar panels, batteries and three-phase electric motors to efficiently cruise some 50-plus miles each day with nothing but power from the sun – not even with help from shore power.
After lunch there were talks presented by Adirondack Chapter members Andy Ellis, Neil Satterly, and Adam Weisburgh on three barn finds of aluminum, wood and fiberglass– all with the all-too relatable theme question of “what have I gotten myself into?”
Several other boats were displayed under cover along with many outboard motors. RCYC members were on hand to make us feel very welcome with a food concession, opening their clubhouse for the solar lecture and bathrooms. The Club grounds are an excellent venue for this type of event, and we look forward toward returning in the future.
Thank you to the ACBS members who attended with their boats or just made the visit to be supportive. Special thanks to Adam Weisburgh who organized the event and to Andy Ellis for his extra efforts to make this day successful.
